Not so long ago there was very little range for local beer in Uruguay, with the market dominated by national beers Pilsen and Patricia. Uruguay now has a passion for making craft beer and it is here to stay. The trend came late and silently, almost like a secret. Every few months a new brewery opens up making a new specialist beer. Some of the most popular and delicious micro breweries that have been popping up on taps and store shelves all over the country are Volcanica, Cabesas Bier, Montevideo Brew House, Cerveza MASTRA, Cervecería del Sur – Davok, Oso Pardo, O’Neill and Birra Bizarra.
