Range Brewing - When The Sun Sleeps Black IPA 6.8% 440ml Can

When The Sun Sleeps is a brand new Black IPA that Range have plumped up with a beautiful dry hop that consists of Citra, Rakau, Chinook and Idaho 7 HyperBoost™ plus, they dropped in some Galaxy hop flowers for their whirlpool addition. OK now here's the thing about Black IPA - it's all about balance. Range are marrying up to styles of Ale that were fine on their own, but sometimes need to be paired together (once every few years at Range). And they think this one balances beautifully. The tricky part is balancing the exceptionally fresh and hoppy notes this beer has, with the indulgent and warming, toasted and chocolate notes it also has. On the nose you first get toasty chocolate malt, before hints of berries, and citrus come popping through. On the palate, it's a delicate and intertwined blend of punchy citrus, pine and stonefruit with hints of dark chocolate and toffee. The whole way through a medium-full body carries through a mild bitterness that perfectly lends itself to the warming nature of this IPA.
